About the Foundation

Mission Statement

The Foundation exists to preserve the legacy of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in its diverse entirety and, through his life philosophy and principles, to work towards contributing to a better South Africa, Africa and the world at large.

The Foundation strives to create a world in which every individual is empowered to reach their full potential, working on their own or collectively with others.

The Foundation works to promote the virtues of nation-building, constitutionalism, justice and inclusiveness.

Digitisation Project

As its first project, the Foundation is part of a team working to create a digital archive of all the documents, correspondence and artefacts that have, at some point in history, crossed the desk of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi in his long public life.

This project will make this body of material locally and internationally available to researchers, historians and anyone interested in a chapter of history in which a people moved from oppression to freedom. This history is being preserved for future generations.

Prince Buthelezi’s digital archive is one of the most diverse in terms of personalities, subjects and period of time. He has managed to live a very diverse public life over some seven decades. His archive will thus contain information that is not available anywhere else.

The Foundation wishes to express sincere gratitude to all the partners in this project –
