On Sunday, 23 April 2023, the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Foundation, and the Mohanji Foundation SA, will participate in a citrus tree-planting and community water supply project in Nonoti, a semi-rural area, outside Stanger, KwaZulu-Natal.

Earth Day celebrations are hosted across the globe on 22 April each year, and this initiative speaks directly to the Buthelezi and Mohanji Foundations’ shared objectives to promote environmental sustainability and development, as well as poverty eradication.

This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in our Planet”, which focuses on accelerating the transition to a prosperous, equitable green economy.

Thanks to the support of the Mohanji Foundation SA, which owns the land where the tree-planting will take place, this project will be stewarded and have a significant long-term impact and improvement on the lives of the surrounding rural community.

In addition, the Foundation’s namesake, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, will join the proceedings and participate in the tree planting. Prince Buthelezi has been a lifelong advocate for the environment, championing such in his more than seven decades of public service. Mohanji is a global Humanitarian and another passionate advocate for the environment.

Mohanji – who has initiated a global tree planting programme – will join proceedings via live stream.

The event will be registered with Earthday.org, and live-streamed via both Foundation’s social media channels on the day.
