FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Foundation is honoured to announce that His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, will deliver the Second Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Lecture.
The lecture will take place on Saturday, 15 November 2025, at the Durban International Convention Centre (ICC), 45 Bram Fischer Road, Durban, commencing at 14h00.
This year’s theme, “Building Africa from Within: Advancing Peace, Reconciliation, and Self-Reliance for Sustainable Development,” will explore the enduring values that shaped the legacy of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi — particularly his commitment to peace, reconciliation, and the empowerment of African people through self-help and self-reliance.
Prince Buthelezi shared a profound friendship and intellectual camaraderie with the late Tanzanian President Dr Julius Nyerere, engaging in many philosophical discussions about governance and African empowerment. As a young leader, Prince Buthelezi deeply admired President Nyerere’s vision of Ujamaa, an African model of socialism rooted in unity and self-sufficiency.
The Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi Lecture Series serves as a platform for reflection and dialogue on leadership, service, and nation-building, while celebrating the life and legacy of one of South Africa’s most distinguished statesmen.
